Can a bunion make your whole foot hurt?

Bunions are deformities at the base of the big toe that can cause pain and disability — are common and can really slow a person down.

So to answer this question, Yes a person with bunions were more likely to experience pain in their whole foot but also in other parts of their body, including the hip, knee and even lower back.

Bunions may also affect gait, balance, and increase risk of falls in older people, but one of the major implications bunions have on the whole foot is that there is trouble finding shoes they like to wear that don’t cause pain to the foot .Not only that , but as a bunion gets worse, it may also cause hammertoes or crossover toes, or pain in the ball of the foot, called metatarsalgia.

Worst case scenario the misalignment in your big toe can lead to painful osteoarthritis. This can limit the movement in the big toe and cause long term problems not just in the big toe but also affect knees and hips.

The most common concern over a bunion getting worse is that your only option may end up being surgery. Bunion surgery is very involved and can be costly. If your bunion gets to an advanced stage surgery may be the only option, the difficulty with this is that whist surgery can be successful in advanced stages recovery and the pain and swelling associated with recovery is significant.
